Grammy's

I don't know if I've ever watched the Grammy's in their entirety, but tonight that's what's on... I acknowledge that I am very musically uneducated -mostly my playlists consist of top 40 songs- but in the last few years it's gotten even worse. Since I moved to Chicago I haven't quite figured out the radio stations. Anyway, the point is that there is some really great music out there and I.HAVE.NO.IDEA!

How do I educate myself? How do I get into new bands? Suggestions?

P.S. Say what you want about Celine Dion, but she has a killer voice!

P.P.S I love Bon Jovi, but I think I did a better rendition of Living on a Prayer during my last session on Rock Band...

Frustrated!

Argh. Frustrated…

So last week (or so) I discussed my desire to get healthy and fit. And in the process I wanted to lose weight. Specifically to get to my goal weight of 133 by my trip to Japan on April 1st. This was a reasonable goal as it came out to be about 10 lbs in about 11 weeks. Well I’m here to check in and tell you I’m 3 pounds FURTHER from my goal. It is so frustrating and not at all what I wanted. Part of my frustration stems from the fact that I am a slow loser yet I am a very fast gainer. In a one week gain I can undo 2 or 3 weeks of loss.

So today I recommit… to focusing on my goals and taking steps to attain them. I’ve incorporated exercise back into my routine, but my eating can still be better. I need to make sure not only that I’m not eating too much, but that I’m eating the right things. Sticking to a low cal diet/points range doesn’t do any good if it consists of chips and candy. I need to fuel my body with the right things.

So… my goal for next week –take off the weight I put on this week. And to make mindful choices about the food I’m eating. I’ll check back in and let you know how I’m doing!

A quote from Maria Robinson:
Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

Lazy day off

I had today off from work for MLK day... I honored it by doing nothing. It was a lazy day and the only time I left the house was for yoga. Of course, I was planning on going to another class or for a run tonight, but instead I've pretty much just sat on my duff.

Wow, this post is boring.

I've been adding blogs to my google reader. Anyone have one to suggest?

Putting it out there

Ok, so maybe I have to put it all out there... really visualize the goal... and make it permanent for the whole interweb to see.

My goal is to weigh NO MORE than 134 before my Japan trip. That gives me 11 weeks to lose the weight and as of this morning about 12 lbs. I do my official weekly weigh ins on Wednesdays, so I'll update you tomorrow.

Wow, I can't believe I just put it all out there. I'm also going to do my measurements tomorrow morning so I can have an accurate measure for CNC's Lose the dough by the big 3-o challenge. Eek!!!

Lose the Dough

So Tina over at carrotsncake has a new goal, Lose the Dough for the Big 3-0, which I think is pretty clever. Coinciding with my new year's resolutions and also just my general goal to get fit, this seems like perfect timing. Tina is giving herself 5 months (starting next Tuesday, Jan 19th) and although my big 3-0 isn't for a few more months afeterwards, I think I'll try to stick to her timeline for guidance.

Over that past few months I've lost about 10 pounds, but would like to lose 15 more. Increasing my physical exercise as well as eating more mindfully will help in this goal. H (hubby) and I joined the gym last week, so that is also a step in the right direction. My building has a workout room, but I was missing out on classes and wanted to get into yoga more. So even though the gym is much more expensive than I would have liked, I think it was/is a good investment in our health.

So the goal is 15 lbs... ideally I'd love to do it before my trip to Japan in April, although I'm not pinning my hopes on it since that's only about 11 weeks away, but let's see how close I get!

New Years Resolutions

Happy 2010 everyone! So I still haven't done my 2009 year in photos, but I am still planning on it. Who wants to guess when that will actually get done?

So looking to 2010, did you make resolutions? I did...
1. I plan to get back into a regular workout/running routine. I want to do 4 days a week.
2. I plan to lose the 15 lbs I've been talking about doing.
3. I plan to volunteer this year. This may mean joining Junior League (a whole other post), but it would get me to meet people (something I don't do) and volunteer. I'll keep you posted on my decision. Luckily I have a few months before I have to decide.
4. I plan on limiting my television watching to 1 hour a day during the week.
5. I plan on keeping my house more organized.

So that's my plan for 2010, what's yours?
