December in review

Since it seems I haven’t written since the beginning of December maybe I should recap what happened this month.

I decided on and bought a watch. It was one of the more expensive things I have purchased for myself and was pretty nervous about it… but once I bit the bullet and decided on it, I have no regrets. And I LOVE it. A.LOT. And in my defense, I found a (much) less expensive Bulova watch that online looked similar to the watch I wanted, but in reality, it was not the same at all… so I returned it (still waiting for a refund macys.com) and bought my new one. And in case you forgot how lovely it was, here’s a picture:

I finished school! It took me a long time to do, but I finally finished my masters. However, because it took me so long, I’m still waiting for my diploma to arrive in the mail (I’m not going to convocation) before I really celebrate. However, that did not preclude me from accepting presents from my parents for my graduation. I had a lovely day shopping with my mom where she bought me this purse and this necklace. I know, spoiled much?

Christmas! Wow, that came fast and furious –very similar to our (me and my husband) trip home. We went to Boston for a few days before Christmas and then flew up to Montreal on Christmas Eve for the weekend. Christmas was amazing and so great to see friends and family. Of course we were spoiled silly with gifts, so a big thank you to everyone (our parents especially). And my husband got me great presents this year –made up for last year’s used alarm clock and post-it fiasco… hehe, kidding.

Also, speaking of my Christmas visit... terrorists really have to stop messing with flights. It is causing people to freak out and is making my trips so much longer. I don't mind extra security and extra screening, I get it, it's for my protection... but seriously... terrorists, I blame you.

And then speaking of airports... (I know, total tangent), but people are R-U-D-E! I witnessed a nicely dressed man in a suit YELLING at a gate agent about the cancelled flight. Um, the flight was cancelled because of mechanical problems... yes that's annoying, and yes you probably want to get wherever you're going b/c you're important. But wouldn't you rather then cancel the flight then risk flying you in the plane and having it crash?!? Hmm... something to ponder. And also, if you're a big whig, you probably shouldn't book your flight with the budget airline... yah, just sayin'.

Lastly, 2009 is ending! Yup, just one more day… So I guess looking forward to the new year it’s logical to think of things that you want to change (i.e new year’s resolutions) and also to reflect on the year past. My husband takes a million photos (seriously), so I think this year I want to try to make a little slideshow/montage of photos from the year. If I do it (hopefully I do!) then I’ll be sure to post them here.

One resolution should be to post more here. I have a terrible memory so this is a good way to keep track of my life… Ok, talk soon!

I need the internet to tell me...

So I'm feeling exhausted and stayed up late last night. I planned to work out tonight since I wouldn't be able to again until the weekend. Should I go work out? or go to bed early and try to get up and run before work tomorrow? What's more important -sleep or exercise?

On a related note, why is hard to not be fat and lazy? That's so much easier!

Gah!

Wowsers, it's December already... just a few weeks from now I'll be on a plane heading back East to celebrate Christmas with my family and then off to Canada to celebrate with my husband's. Time is flying by and things are just kind of crazy.

In other news... nothing. I'm trying to get into running again, but I haven't really been too successful. I think part of the problem is that I need a much better running mix. I haven't listened to the radio in ages (seriously, my radio is currently set to static), so I have no idea what new songs are out there, or what would be great for running.

I have about $15 left on an itunes gift card... so any suggestions for songs for a great running mix?

How much tv is too much?

I discovered my love of tv is sucking up a lot of my time. And it’s not that I necessarily have all this other important stuff that I need to be doing, but it’s hard to say you don’t have time when you regularly watch 2-3 hours of tv a night. My friends tell me to get a DVR so I can watch tv more “efficiently”, but I think that would just get me to watch more tv period. I watch some shows on demand, so that cuts down some of the commercials, but I think that I need to decide which shows I can watch “live’ and which ones I can catch up on later… I need to be more efficient w/ my tv time. Plus, I just looked at my schedule for the holidays, and it’s looking pretty full. So cutting tv time might be the only way I get through the holidays w/out losing my mind!

Watches

So I need to get a new watch. I’ve been thinking about splurging a little and buying one, but I dropped my watch last night and the face cracked… so now I have to. There are a couple that I’m toying with. The Michele Deco watch:

Then there's the same watch with diamonds. But it's also double the price.

Do you think it's worth it? Or should I be looking at other brands?

There's a citizen eco drive watch that I also like, but it might be a little manly...

I need help! Oh, and I want it to be an everyday watch that I can dress up and dress down.

Earrings

So I really want to add these earrings to my Christmas list... but my friend (as well as my husband) thinks that they're old lady earrings. Thoughts?

Christmas list

So I need to start making a list of things I want for Christmas. I don't usually do this, but since I'm trying to stay on some sort of budget this year, I thought that I could make a list instead of going right out and purchasing something. So we'll see how this works out for me...

Time to budget

So over the last few months I've been trying to get a handle on the family's finances. We're not drowning in debt or anything really serious, but I feel like if I don't get a handle on it now, we potentially could be. We've been dipping into savings recently to pay for credit card bills and that's not really a habi I want to get into. So... I'm trying to come up with ways to cut back without feeling really deprived. The problem is that my husband is not all that great with this "budgeting" or "cutting back" thing... so I need to get him on board to... Slynnro is doing NoImYoSeMo instead of NoBloPoMo (I know... so confusing), but she's using November as the month to improver herself. So I feel like I should do the same... Why not use the month of November to get my life back on track.

So my goals for November:
-Keep my house in guest ready conditions at all times (or for the majority of the time)
-Cut back on spending and find creative ways to still have a good time for less
-Figure out a way to start volunteering... Join Junior League or another organization
-Get back in touch with friends that I have lost touch with. I am terrible about using the phone and really need to get over that asap.
-Eat healthier... if I want to have a baby (which I do), then I really need to take this time to get myself ready including taking care of my body and developing good habits.

Ebay adventures v.2

So my ebay adventures... The shoes I ordered, aren't the ones that I thought I ordered! So sad... very, similar, but not the same. Sigh, I'm sad... they're very similar, but the peep toe is much larger, so it allows more of my toes to stick out more.

In other news... has anyone had really good luck on ebay? Any tips? I never seem to really know what I'm doing and end up with things that aren't exactly what I wanted.

Also, in other news... I would like to update my blog... suggestions?

Why I shouldn't be allowed on ebay...

I love the concept of ebay… the coupon cutting, bargain hunting part of me loves it. But I don’t really have good experiences. Granted I’ve only used ebay a handful of times, but it seems like most of my experiences end badly. This past weekend is the latest in my follies. I decided that there are a pair of Enzo Angiolini mary janes that I MUST HAVE. But I’m a little late to the game, and these are not a current style. So I had a brilliant news flash –let’s look at ebay! Well, no one is selling a pair of these fabulous shoes, but while I’m there I figured I might as well check out what other shoes people are selling. I scrolled through pages of shoes and there were 2 pairs of shoes that I like priced reasonably that I thought I should place a bid on. Well fast forward to today… I go on to check to see if someone is selling those mary janes… and low and behold, I won the bid for one of my shoes… and am currently winning the bid on the other. The shoes are reasonably priced (in total if I win, it’ll be under $100), but this isn’t really $100 I have to spend on shoes, nor are these shoes that I really need. I mean one of them is a style of shoe I already own in 5 colors… yes, seriously, FIVE.

But I still don’t have these:

Future

It's Saturday night and I am at a college sporting event. This in and of itself isn't that unusual, but it is a women's indoor volleyball game for a school I did not attend nor do I know anyone on the team (past or present).

I did however get a glimpse into my future. There's a girl scout event so there are swarms of little girls and the requisite mothers chaperoning. There's a lot of high pitched yelling and weary looking mothers. Yup. This is what I can see in my future. Wait, why the rush for kids? :) kidding.

This is hard...

Oh no... this blogging thing is hard! Jeez... So I tried to post from my phone, this lovely picture of a bumpit in action (i.e. in real life), but it didn't quite work... maybe I should actually take REAL pictures with my camera... this will teach me.

So, I have nothing interesting to say. Not a one... so sad...

Bumpit

I'm not sure how to crop this picture so you're getting it in all its glory -I saw a bumpit in real life. From the front it looked great.

I wish I had a picture of the back because it was a hot mess.

(ed note: picture did not come through... but trust me when I say, it wasn't really working for her...)

Testing

I figure since I get my best blogging ideas while on the road I should hook up mobile blogging. Let's see if this worked :)

Weekend recap

So I went to Canada this weekend for my husband’s friend’s wedding. It was such a good time, but it was so busy and it went by way too quickly. Trips “away” like this make me more tired than anything, but they are definitely worth it.
Since I can’t really recap everything that happened, I’ll just leave you with a few snippets of funny things that happened to me this weekend:
-I was told by a friend that I was like the sister he’s never had… this is very sweet, but too bad for his sister… yes, this kid already has one.
-I was told by a TSA agent that I was fat… well, not really, but she did say that my pants were too tight. Back story –she was doing a random screening of me and gave me the old pat down… when she went to go look at my waist, she realized that my jeans were fitted and that I wasn’t smuggling anything there. So that’s when she told me oh so nicely that my pants were too tight.
-After my weekend away I was greeted at the airport by the same person who had checked me in 2 days before. She recognized me and asked how my trip was… very strange.

Hm… I thought I had more. Oh well, until next time!

Biggest Loser

Wow, first of all, it's been a L-O-N-G time since I blogged... but, onto the actual reason I'm posting. Did anyone watch the Biggest Loser last night? I'd be interested to see what people thought.

I will say, I'm a big fan of the show. I think it's great that people become motivated to change their lives, b/c these people aren't chubby, they're actually unhealthy. BUT, there are two things that really irk me about the show. First, all these people come on and tell you how determined they are and how they don't quit, etc, etc... but if that was REALLY true... wouldn't they not be in the dire situation they are in now? If they are so motivated to change their lives, wouldn't they already have made that first step? I mean, I have to go back to the fact that these people aren't overweight, they are very, very large and very, very unhealthy. Second, why does EVERYONE have to cry?!? And a lot... I realize that this is hard and this is going to be really life changing, but can we stop with the waterworks? I think it annoys me more than anything else on the show. Oh, and why is everyone so SHOCKED when they step on the scale for the first time... did you expect to be 150? I'm so confused by that...

Also, this year... the contestants are really big. When you're making the people who are 250 lbs look small, you know there's a problem. And I should say that I am not obese, but I am also no super model... I've got weight to lose so I definitely understand the struggle... but I also don't understand how people let themselves get to be that large. There's a difference between being heavy set (and maybe that's your body type) to being 400 lbs...

Happy Labor Day

So I have a million things to do... pack, clean, laundry, etc. But what have I been doing? Watching bad tv, movies and this marathon of 16 and Pregnant (MTV). That show kind of disturbs me, yet I was still captivated to watch 2 full episodes... so sad.

Today has been such a waste of a day... but I somehow don't feel too bad about it.

Wow, I have nothing interesting...

Fashion tip of the day:

If you are a man who needs to wear a shirt and tie to work, please don’t pair it with a pair of cargo pants… and please do not use the pockets to hold your newspaper. Oh, and this goes double if you’re over the age of 30…. Just sayin’

Blogging ADD

Ha, so in the whopping TWO days that I’ve had this blog up, I have changed the name THREE times. Yes, that’s a bit of blogging ADD. And although I don’t have readers (yet *hehe*) I do feel the need to explain. I feel like the name of a blog can entice readers or turn them away. It’s like a cover of a book –although “everyone” tells you not to judge a book by its cover, we all have to admit that we do. And isn’t that contradictory advice considering that “everyone” also says, you never get a second chance at a first impression?

So, I think this new name is going to stick. Because right now this is just an eclectic collection of random thoughts, of my observations and of the mundane day-to-day that entertain me. So most of this is me just sayin’ something… Welcome!

Bored..

Why is it when you're bored and want to waste time on the internet, there's nothing good? None of the blogs you read have new material, and no one is posting on twitter or facebook... sad. Guess that means I should go to bed.

Fashion Tip of the day

Here's a thought:
If you are a 40+ woman who needs to wear a suit to work, a micro mini skirt suit probably is not what your company was thinking when implementing that dress code policy. Just sayin'...
