Money spent

Guess what I spent my Christmas money on? Shoes! My favorite -of course it wasn't either of the things I mentioned before (Hunter boots or the Tory Burch flats), but a new pair of boots. Aren't they purdy? Husband's going to laugh at me. haha
But in my defense, I decided that I'm going to try to find the flats on sale and I needed a new pair of boots that had a sensible heel and that I could wear with brown and black. Clearly these fit the bill -hopefully they're comfortable!
(plus, I might have some more money to spend in a few months when my bonus comes... so everyone wins!).

Christmas follow up

So I received some money for Christmas and am having a hard time figuring out what to spend it on. I know I don't need to spend it all now, but I like to spend Christmas money on things -since it is a present.

I splurged and bought myself a really nice flat iron. I currently have a cheap $20 conair flat iron that doesn't really do a whole lot and mostly just makes my hair warm. It is actually the bane of my existence. So on the recommendation of my sister-in-law I splurged on a Sedu flatiron -I'm hoping it's all I dream of and more, especially since I currently despise how my hair looks when I don't bother to blow dry it straight, which is currently 95 -99% of the time! Definitely more than my old $20 iron and definitely a bit of a splurge, but if it makes me like my hair 95-99% of the time, then it will be worth every penny. And I was able to use some Christmas money, so it was like someone else bought it for me!

But what else should I do with my money? I want a new pair of wellies as my current pair are pretty uncomfortable to walk in. I know Hunter boots are the creme de la creme, but I have a hard time shelling out $150 for rubber boots. Should I just bite the bullet and do it since I know they'll last? Or should I be a little bit more reasonable and get something else? In the same line, I've been debating the whole Tory Burch Reva flat thing. For a long time I despised them w/ the enormous buckle/logo-but there is a cute pair that caught my eye that has a black logo so it's a little bit more subtle.
Do you agree? Less obnoxious, right? But are they really that comfortable? Are they worth it? I figure once I get really pregnant (and fat) I won't be able to wear my heels out at night and these are dressy enough, but do I really need them? Or should I look for a cheaper alternative?

Help -I've never had a problem spending money shopping... but I need some ideas, what should I do with my Christmas money?!?

Christmas!

Ok, so it's not actually Christmas (it's a few days after), but it's still the "holiday season"! We had a lovely Christmas break -we took a week off from work and traveled to Boston and Montreal to see family and a few friends. It was much too short, but even a small break from work is nice.

We got totally spoiled (per usual), had a great Christmas and even escaped Boston before the big snowstorm hit. Hope you all had a great Christmas and now I need to go figure out what to buy with my Christmas money!

December in review

Since it seems I haven’t written since the beginning of December maybe I should recap what happened this month.

I decided on and bought a watch. It was one of the more expensive things I have purchased for myself and was pretty nervous about it… but once I bit the bullet and decided on it, I have no regrets. And I LOVE it. A.LOT. And in my defense, I found a (much) less expensive Bulova watch that online looked similar to the watch I wanted, but in reality, it was not the same at all… so I returned it (still waiting for a refund macys.com) and bought my new one. And in case you forgot how lovely it was, here’s a picture:

I finished school! It took me a long time to do, but I finally finished my masters. However, because it took me so long, I’m still waiting for my diploma to arrive in the mail (I’m not going to convocation) before I really celebrate. However, that did not preclude me from accepting presents from my parents for my graduation. I had a lovely day shopping with my mom where she bought me this purse and this necklace. I know, spoiled much?

Christmas! Wow, that came fast and furious –very similar to our (me and my husband) trip home. We went to Boston for a few days before Christmas and then flew up to Montreal on Christmas Eve for the weekend. Christmas was amazing and so great to see friends and family. Of course we were spoiled silly with gifts, so a big thank you to everyone (our parents especially). And my husband got me great presents this year –made up for last year’s used alarm clock and post-it fiasco… hehe, kidding.

Also, speaking of my Christmas visit... terrorists really have to stop messing with flights. It is causing people to freak out and is making my trips so much longer. I don't mind extra security and extra screening, I get it, it's for my protection... but seriously... terrorists, I blame you.

And then speaking of airports... (I know, total tangent), but people are R-U-D-E! I witnessed a nicely dressed man in a suit YELLING at a gate agent about the cancelled flight. Um, the flight was cancelled because of mechanical problems... yes that's annoying, and yes you probably want to get wherever you're going b/c you're important. But wouldn't you rather then cancel the flight then risk flying you in the plane and having it crash?!? Hmm... something to ponder. And also, if you're a big whig, you probably shouldn't book your flight with the budget airline... yah, just sayin'.

Lastly, 2009 is ending! Yup, just one more day… So I guess looking forward to the new year it’s logical to think of things that you want to change (i.e new year’s resolutions) and also to reflect on the year past. My husband takes a million photos (seriously), so I think this year I want to try to make a little slideshow/montage of photos from the year. If I do it (hopefully I do!) then I’ll be sure to post them here.

One resolution should be to post more here. I have a terrible memory so this is a good way to keep track of my life… Ok, talk soon!

Watches

So I need to get a new watch. I’ve been thinking about splurging a little and buying one, but I dropped my watch last night and the face cracked… so now I have to. There are a couple that I’m toying with. The Michele Deco watch:

Then there's the same watch with diamonds. But it's also double the price.

Do you think it's worth it? Or should I be looking at other brands?

There's a citizen eco drive watch that I also like, but it might be a little manly...

I need help! Oh, and I want it to be an everyday watch that I can dress up and dress down.

Earrings

So I really want to add these earrings to my Christmas list... but my friend (as well as my husband) thinks that they're old lady earrings. Thoughts?

Christmas list

So I need to start making a list of things I want for Christmas. I don't usually do this, but since I'm trying to stay on some sort of budget this year, I thought that I could make a list instead of going right out and purchasing something. So we'll see how this works out for me...
