Nora's 12 month appt

Today was Nora's 1 year appointment and she passed with flying colors.
She's still giant and in the  90+ percentile across the board for height, weight and head circumference.

Since her 9 month appointment she grew about 2 inches and is 30.75 inches (93%), gained less than a pound (25 lbs 1.5 oz (97%) and her head is 18.74 inches (97.5%!).

She didn't really enjoy getting her shots, but it was worth celebrating her year with a cheeseburger and fries!

These pictures totally crack me up. I love it.

2014? Really?

Oh hi there! Are you still around?

It's been quiet around these parts and I have no idea how the time has been going by so quickly. It's already 2014. There was no Christmas post (spoiler alert, it was awesome), or year end wrap up or even a list of New Year's resolutions... And (shocker) there was no "Dear Nora" newsletter (or Dear Callan one for that matter). But you've reached the 9 month mark and that seems like a noteworthy month. I said with Callan, it was 9 months in, 9 months out and oh what a difference!

So here goes.
Dear Nora:
You are 9 months old... and amazing. You so desperately want to walk and are getting ready. The past month had you crawling with your belly (finally) off the ground. I realize that there is a lot of it, so I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon, but you are amazingly mobil. Once you set your sights on something you are off. For awhile the army crawl was your preferred method of transportation -and you were quick, but now you've got a proper crawl down. Now that you've mastered that,  you are pulling yourself up on everything and sort of shuffling around. Walking can't be too far behind, but I'd like to wait a little bit longer.

You are a pretty sweet baby still although you'll get vocal about things that displease you. Generally those things are minor, but you do not like being told "no" or being told not to play with hazardous things (plugs, lights, cords, etc).

You are eating like a champ although you're slowly starting to show less and less interest in milk. But, I get it... once you've tasted real food, who a liquid diet! So far there isn't a whole lot you don't like. You prefer to feed yourself, so you sometimes will lose interest in soft/puree foods that need to be fed to you, but you love to eat and you're drinking from a straw cup like a champ. The transition to solids took a little toll on your bowels, which your dad is oddly obsessed with, but I think you're ok.

You (please, please continue) are sleeping pretty well. Your naps are generally good (and on the long side) and you sleep (almost) through the night. You sometimes get up around 3/4am to eat, but most of the time go right back to bed until 6/7am (a few times you've decided that it's a good time to get up, but yeesh, it is not).

What else, you've finally got your first set of teeth -your bottom two. But that's it. I try not to compare too much between you and your brother, but your brother had 5 by his 9 month birthday. But don't worry, the lack of teeth are not slowing you down from chomping away at your favorite goodies.

We celebrated your first Christmas (yea!) with nana and papa in town and your first new year's eve party (that you slept straight through). Now that it's 2014, I need to gear up for your first birthday (what the what) and come to terms with the fact that my little baby is no more. You are a pretty awesome little girl and can't wait to see what 2014 has in store for you.

Love,
Mama

p.s. Although this picture depicts otherwise, you really did have a good time at Christmas dinner at the Four Seasons. I mean, think of all the food!

p.p.s. We had your 9 month well baby visit and it was pretty great. You are still giant -bigger (i.e. heavier) than Callan was, but shorter (you've stayed consistently 2 inches shorter than him since birth). You're in the 88th percentile for height (29 inches) and 99th percentile for weight (24 lbs, 14 ounces) and 100 percent perfect.

4 months, 10 days and a variable giant

I posted something very similar when Callan was 4 months old. His 4 month well baby visit was when he was 4 months, 8 days and we thought he was a giant baby. Well, Nora is following in his giant footsteps. This past Wednesday baby girl had her 4 month well baby visit and she's a giant.  A perfectly healthy, perfect little baby girl. She's meeting/exceeding all her milestones and she's growing.

Her official stats:
20 pounds, 8 ounces (!) This is off the charts and more than 2 pounds heavier than what Callan was at this age. She's a few inches shorter than Callan was and only 26.25 inches  putting her in the 95th percentile and her giant 95th percentile head was 17 inches.

The doctor mentioned we could start solids with her at 5 months and to skip the cereal and start right with fruits and veg, but I think we're going to wait and do baby led weaning again (like we did with Callan). The doctor seemed on board with it so we won't rush solid food because obviously baby girl is thriving on her current diet of milk.
But seriously, I can't complain. There's more of her to smush and love and I am so blessed and lucky to have such a healthy, perfect child.  I mean seriously, look at this girl... her smile is infectious (even when strapped to the bathroom wall).

Or when big brother gets involved.

But on a more serious note she wants to know why the hold up on solids? She hears they are pretty tasty...

(This picture totally cracks me up... babies and bumbos. I think Callan fits in it better than she does!)

Dear Nora: Month 2

Dear Nora bug-
Oh dear, sweet, (often) forgotten Nora... You are now 2 months old and continue to be such a great baby! Your strong willed, toddler brother takes up so much of your parents' energy and attention, but that does not mean that you are not as loved or adored (because you are).

How could you not love this sweet face (and matching sweet demeanor).
I can't believe how fast the time is flying by and that you're already 2 months old. Unfortunately as a second child you get compared to the first one a lot and and one way I am continuously comparing is your size. You are following in your brother's footsteps and are turning into a giant baby. We had your 2 month well baby visit today and you are growing and thriving. You are now 2 feet tall and weigh a whopping 16 lbs, 12 ounces! I keep thinking that you're so much bigger than Callan was at that age, but it's not true (you're just a pound heavier, although a few inches shorter), but I think it's those delicious cheeks that make me think that (and those thighs!).

We retired your 3 month clothes and have you in all 3-6 or 6 month clothes. I think you like the extra room in them and it's amazing to see how you've filled them out so quickly.

Your brother loves on you dearly (although sometimes too much and too aggressively), but he has good intentions. He asks to hold you and play with you and get his picture taken with you. It's very sweet and I hope it continues until you're both old and grey.

Nora bug, you've been such a great baby. So patient and laid back, which has helped tremendously when mama's had to deal with you and your brother on her own. When you're not sleeping, you love to talk, smile and laugh. It's so fun to talk to you and get you to laugh and smile because you forget how little newborns interact.

We finally transitioned you to your crib this week for nighttime sleeping and you took to it like a champ. I'm hoping you inherited some good sleeping genes as well like your brother did (although he could use a refresher course on sleeping through the night in his own bed. Could you talk to him about that?). We haven't started you on a day time schedule yet, but it's still a little early for that (I think).

Speaking of schedules, your schedule is about to be changed up a bit. Unfortunately, mama has to go back to work (boo), but the good news is that you get to hang out with Adelia and Callan! I know you guys are going to have loads of fun together and I can't wait to hear about all your adventures.

Nora bug... I hope you know how much we love you. I'm sorry that you sometimes are ignored, but I promise to make it up to you some day. Your dad, brother and I are so blessed to have you in our lives and that you are such a happy, healthy baby. There have been too many reminders these past few months of how tragic and unfair life can be and you are truly a light in mine.

Happy 2 months muffin.

Love,
Mama

Dear Callan: month 25

Dear Callan-
You are now in your second year and I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to keep up with these monthly updates (not that they're ever on time now), but I rushed through your 2nd year (24 month) newsletter so I thought you deserved a proper one (in case this ends up being your last). What can I say... you are my little munchkin. You are two (well, now two + a month) and you are quite a handful. People ask how it is having a newborn again, and I have to say Nora's the easy one. She may be demanding, but her demands are easy -she cries when she's hungry, wants to be held, or wants to be left alone to sleep or when she needs a diaper change. There's no need to reason with her and there's no other way for her to communicate (and she sleeps a whole lot and isn't mobile so there isn't a lot of supervising that needs to be done at this stage).  You on the other hand are your own little person with your own ideas and desires and there's no reasoning with you either, but you sure as heck want to try. There are a lot of tears and foot stomping going on in our house right now and I know it's frustrating for you because you are mister independent and want to do EVERYTHING yourself and want everything done a certain way (i.e. your way). You had a complete meltdown the other night because I dared to pour you a cup of milk by myself and didn't let you help. Granted it was a full gallon of milk that I was pouring from, but you had a complete meltdown and screamed "Me do it. Pour milk" for at least 20 minutes. "Me do it" is your favorite phrase (or at least it seems like it is) right now.

You still seem to love your sister and whenever she's awake you let us know. Whenever she's lying on the ground playing, you always insist on lying down next to her too. It is awfully cute except we have to watch you because you sometimes have bad aim and end up lying down on top of her or resting your head on some body part of hers.

It's also like when you give her hugs. If we're not watching you carefully you sometimes smother her with your hugs and kisses and then you seem offended when she starts squawking in protest or starts to cry.

I've started calling your sister muffin and it's super cute to hear you refer to her as muffin too. I mistakenly called her munchkin one day and you were quick to remind me that "me munchkin, Nora, muffin". Speaking also of nicknames, you've taken to calling daddy "Huge", which is both cute and disturbing. Whenever you want to get daddy's attention, you'll cup your hands around your mouth (which is really just you putting a hand on each cheek) and yelling "Huge".

Some of your favorite things right now are your green car,

bubbles,

and McDonald's. Not only for their delicious fries, ice cream and apple pie (or whatever other treat you get Adelia to give you)

but also because of the play space they have. At one of the McDonald's by our house there is this giant climbing structure, which I'm sure is a death trap (and full of germs -probably the underlying reason for your never ending runny nose these days). The first time I went with you there were a ton of kids (mostly older) running around and climbing. I was sure you were going to get trampled and I hesitated to let you go because it looked so big, but I knew you had gone with Adelia before and you really wanted to go climb. It was one of my first lessons in parenting and letting go. I had to trust you to go off and get through without me holding your hand or helping in any way. To be honest it was kind of nerve wracking for me, but you and I both did it and you had the time of your life. I was watching you while holding Nora with complete amazement because to me, you are still this small person, my baby and there you were scaling this giant structure with all the older kids, holding your own and coming out the other end a sweaty mess, but with a giant grin.

Seriously, look at this thing. That "tube" is made of mesh that you have to crawl through to get to the slide to go down. If a kid gets stuck in there or freaks out and blocks the way, there's no way and adult can get up there and intervene. And there's a hole in one spot and kids kept getting their foot stuck.

You really are a lot of fun. You are talking a lot more and are so interactive. Although along with this talking, you've decided to use "no" much more liberally than before. Even though know you don't mean it, it still breaks my heart a little bit every time you tell me "no kiss" or "no hug". I usually still end up with one, but I know the day will come (probably sooner than I expect) where you'll say that, but mean it.

You still love to dance, but now you've started to sing songs too. You have a fantastic memory and can tell us what's going on in a book or on a show. Speaking of which, we've let you start to watch a bit more tv (yes, I've turned into one of those moms that will throw on a show in the a.m. to get a few extra minutes of sleep or to take a shower knowing you're not inadvertently smothering your sister or pulling apart all your toys). We were watching a lot of Elmo/Sesame Street clips from You Tube, but you've now graduated to actual shows. Your current favorites are Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Super Why, Caillou and Dinosaur Train. You also watched your first movie this month (Cars) and you loved it.

What else can I say about you? You're this fun, spunky, fiercely independent, but super sweet and loving 2 year old little boy. I'm always amazed when I catch you in these moments where I see you as this tall lanky little kid and not the chubby toddler you just were. You no longer call me mama (about 95% of the time now it's mommy) and you've almost lost your knuckle dimples -these are what I use to measure baby-hood and you're almost done with both. You'll always be MY baby, but I've come to realize you really aren't a baby anymore.

Happy 25 months munchkin.

Love,
Mama

P.S. We had your 2 year well baby visit and you continue to be off the charts for height (38 inches) and about 60th percentile for weight (29 lbs).

Dear Nora: Month One

Dear Nora-
Wow, you're already a month old... what a fast month this has been. Just like everything in your short existence, time has been flying by at warp speed. My pregnancy with you did not seem to last nine months -more like nine minutes and these past days and weeks have continued to go by at warp speed and are a complete blur. The fact that this newsletter is getting out just a few weeks late is amazing since I literally have no idea where the time goes.

Nora, you are a great, sweet baby. I hope that continues as I constantly am holding my breath waiting for the other shoe to drop. I've been told (and read about) the difficult and crazy times of having a newborn and toddler as well as the difficulty of transitioning from one to two... and somehow I seem to have lucked out both times I've had a newborn. Your brother was an easy baby and you are as well (although last night was a doozy of a night and you were not happy -or easy). You've got a sweet temperament and put up with a lot including your brother and his out pouring of love. You tolerate him kissing and poking you, his aggressive pushing on the swing and the weight of his head on your body when he tries to "snuggle" you.

It has been amazing to watch you two and some of the sweetest moments are when you'll be lying down next to each other looking at each other. You'll just watch him fascinated and Callan just loves you to bits. My heart swells each time thinking about the connections you've already made with each other and I hope your friendship continues to grow. Even though you won't always be best friends, I hope you'll always be there for each other.

In other news, you are a GIANT baby. Your dad and I make adorable (in my biased opinion), but giant babies. You were born completely normal (7 pounds, 8 ounces, 19 inches long), but you've grown (literally) in leaps in bounds. On Friday you had your one month well baby visit and at 5 weeks old you are now 12 pounds, 14 ounces (seriously, that's almost 13 pounds) and 23.25 inches long! You've gained 5 pounds and grown 4.25 inches. That's ridiculous. And in comparison, Callan was 24 inches, but only 10 pounds, 14 ounces so you are 2 full pounds heavier than he was (and I thought he was big!). You are still in size one diapers and firmly in 3 month clothes... I'm pretty sure we'll be busting out the 6 month clothes soon! So much for my idea of having a cute petite baby girl. But don't worry, we still love you and find you completely adorable in your chunky pork chop/meatball way.

Happy one (+) month baby girl.

Love,
Mama

P.S. Having a girl is going to be fun... I mean, look how cute the clothes and accessories are!

18 month well baby and other updates

Callan had his 18 month doctor appointment last week and the doctor validated everything we already knew. He's growing bigger and stronger every day. Although he didn't grow too much (only about an inch), he continues to be off the charts for height at 35.5 inches. He also gained another few pounds and is 27 pounds, 2 ounces, but that still keeps him in the 70th percentile. And his head at 19 inches, continues strong in the 60-70th percentile.

In other updates, my second pregnancy is chugging along at kind of an alarmingly fast rate. Obviously I've got Callan, Huge and the pending move keeping me busy, but I remember the last pregnancy going so.much.slower. This time, not so much... I'm already 20 weeks in (which means, um, hello, I'm halfway done!). This kid has already fallen victim to second kid syndrome and not nearly as many pictures have been taken to document their (short) existence. Anyway, for those of you asking, here's my 20 week picture (for reference, here's my picture from the last time). I'm feeling like I've popped, but now that I look at this picture, maybe not so much. Although, this is what you get for squeezing your 20 week pregnant self into your pre-pregnancy clothes. I'm starting off smaller than I did at my last pregnancy so my maternity clothes don't really fit me yet, but I should probably give this baby some room to breathe. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and buy a couple pairs of pants. I'm sure I can make do with the shirts I have until I fit into my maternity ones, but the pants are starting to be a struggle.

Anyway, I planned on doing lots more updates -like about the first trimester (cliffs notes edition: the first trimester was terrible... lots of nausea, puking and general feeling of blah but the second has been much better) -but at this point it seems moot. My energy (and appetite) are back, so I'm hoping the rest of this is smooth sailing. And for those of you keeping track, yes, the 20 week mark is when you get your big ultrasound. We will be finding out again so stay tuned. Our ultrasound is next week so we'll know by then (hopefully) whether this little nugget is a boy or girl!

15 month well baby

Last week Callan had his 15 month well baby visit. And guess what? He's still growing like a weed. Haha, as if there was any doubt. He grew ANOTHER few inches and is still off the charts at almost 35"! He's only in the 70th percentile in weight though, tipping the scales at 25 lbs, 3 ounces.

Doesn't this kid look like a giant?

I can't believe how big he is, but he's really the best.  It's crazy to see how he's developing and changing. He still has a funny run, but now he's all about climbing and acting like a much bigger kid than he is! There were no other concerns, although I thought he should have more words, but the doctor said he was right on track. We'll see how much he progresses until his 18 month appointment.

Let's see at 15 months:
Foods:
Loves: watermelon, pasta, peas and crushed ice!
Dislikes: raw tomatoes, bell peppers and cantaloupe

Words:
This, bubbles, baby, ball, blueberry (sort of), banana (sort of), book, mama, dada (he's big on the "b" words), and hello (sort of)

Signs:
Help, please, thank you (sometimes), water, milk, cracker, bath, brush teeth, sleep

Sleep:
Down to one nap (which, lately has been a solid 2-3 hour one) and at night has been back to awesome (knock on wood, I'm hoping I didn't just jinx it).

It's pretty amazing to see him grow!

12 month appointment

Last week we went to the doctor for Callan's 12 month appointment and like usual, he grew... A LOT!
His head stayed in the 70th percentile, but he grew another almost TWO inches! Ridiculous -he is still off the charts at almost 33 inches and I was also convinced he would be over 25 lbs, but he was just 24 lbs 4 ounces.

For reference:
9 months
31 inches, 22 lbs 10 ounces

6 months
29 inches, 21 lbs

4 months
27.5 inches, 18 lbs 2 ounces

2 months
26 inches, 15 lbs 14 ounces

Birth
21 inches, 8 lbs 2 ounces

So as you can see, he is a GIANT! A perfectly happy giant. We were given the green light to incorporate milk into his diet as well as honey, although they did mention holding off a little bit more on some of the high allergen foods, like shellfish and nuts. However, although Callan hasn't had these things directly, he has had things things that have touched them, so we think his allergy potential is low. So we'll proceed with caution, but aren't too concerned.

The one thing that is concerning is his sleep! Where has our great sleeper gone... sigh. One day he'll sleep through the night again. (I think). And we need to get him off the bottle. He's down to 1 or 2 a day, so I don't think it will be too hard, but Callan is stubborn and will only do it when he's good an ready. Welcome to life with a toddler!

Quick update

This little munchkin had his 9 month appointment today. He's fit as a fiddle and developing right on track. He is still a bit iron deficient, but so is his mama so I'm not too concerned. We will continue with the vitamins and giving him more iron rich foods.

He grew (again) - His head was 18 inches (in line with previous measurements and keeping him around the 60th percentile) and he grew another TWO inches! That makes him 31 inches long (still off the charts) and he's just a little bit heavier. He was 21 pounds even at his 6 month appointment and now he's 22 lbs, 10 ounces (that dropped  him down to the 80th percentile). It looks like I won't be getting that Michelin baby I wanted. He's leaning out and as he gets more active and mobile it looks like he'll continue to do so. The doctor even commented on how he will start looking more toddler-esque and I already am starting to see it.

Adelia took him to the aquarium last week and sent these pictures. Definitely more toddler than baby! Eek.

Standing
I think there's a joke somewhere about being on a boat...

Getting ready to row
Loving all the fish
And I swear, these pictures were taken last week and I think he looks bigger already. One day he woke up from a monster nap and he just seemed bigger -especially his feet! He's got his daddy's big feet.

6 month appointment

On Monday (October 31st) Callan went in for his 6 month well baby visit. Officially 6 months, 9 days old Callan aced the visit with flying colors. After months of being off of it, he finally made it onto the height and weight chart! At 21 pounds, 29 inches and a head circumference of 17.5 inches, he is in the 90th percentile for weight, >95th percentile for length and 60th percentile for head. He is growing bigger and stronger each day. He had another round of vaccines and his first flu shot. In previous appointments it seemed like he was bothered by the shots and needed more cuddles and nursing time, but this time he handled it like a champ and so far has not been affected.
I will say that we did have a bit of an interesting doctor's appointment. Our pediatrician that we had been seeing is gone so we were with a new doctor and I don't think our philosophies really meshed. Granted, I realize he's a board certified doctor and went to medical school, etc, so he is probably much smarter than I am, but for certain things I'm not sure I can take his word as gospel. Huge and I discussed it and we agree that we don't think this doctor is for us, but we will continue to go to the practice as we love everything else about it. Although I won't go into specifics, there was a bit of fear mongering that occurred and this particular doctor definitely saw things more in black and white/right and wrong and for certain things he wanted to let us know we were wrong. I know that we're not perfect parents and this is more than just that knee-jerk reaction you get when you're being attacked... he pretty much wanted to let us know that we were inadvertently poisoning our child by letting him chew on things not meant for babies, that we were weak because we were letting him call the shots by allowing him to eat in the middle of the night (this might be true) and that we are depriving him of nutrition/vitamins by skipping iron fortified cereals and doing baby led weaning (an approach to solids that many doctors do not seem to agree with). I will say he convinced us to get more iron into Callan's diet as he is anemic (makes sense since mom is too -although after doing some research after we left, Callan's numbers are almost normal), but his bedside manner could use some work! We had heard from others that you either love or hate this doctor and although I won't say we hate him, we just don't love him like we did our last. We have another appointment in a month with the same doctor so Callan can get the second round of the flu shot and the other vaccines (they split the 6 month vaccines since there are so many), but his next well baby visit at 9 months will be with another doctor. (Although now that I've had some time to think about it, this doctor wasn't so bad... maybe we'll go back. I just remember being pretty upset at the appointment... now, not so much. Maybe I just have a bad memory?)

Callan seems skeptical of mama's memory too...

Clearly Callan is a healthy, happy little boy and no doctor is going to tell me otherwise!

4 months, 8 days and growing

Yesterday, Callan was 4 months and 8 days old. He had his 4 month appointment and he is growing like a weed. It is well documented here that he is larger than the average baby his age, and at 4 months, 8 days, it was no exception.

His official stats:
Weight: 18 pounds, 2 ounces
Length: 27.5 inches. The doctor first measured him at 28 inches, but decided that couldn't be right so she remeasured and came up with 27.5.

Clearly these are not the normal stats for a 4 month old... they are actually more on par with a 6 month old. He is off the charts for both height and weight, but again, the thing I was most concerned about during pregnancy was the size of his head and that is solidly in the 50th percentile. Perfectly average head, off the charts for height and weight and perfect in every other way (to me).
Other than that we got his eczema looked at and a scrip for some hydro-cortisone for his face and body along with some moisturizer cream. I'm hoping that will clear it up since we've been fighting the eczema on his face for a few weeks now. He had his 4 month immunization, which he took like a champ. He wasn't too pleased with the oral vaccine and the second shot in his thigh made him cry. But after a little chow he calmed right down and although he was definitely a little bit grumpier, cuddlier and sleepier last night, he was no worse for wear. Today according to Adelia he's been sleepier and has eaten a bit more than normal, but I think that is about the same as his reaction to his 2 month shots. At the doctor's we also discussed the introduction of solids, but we are in no rush for that and am planning on holding off for a bit longer. He obviously is thriving on breast milk, he doesn't need the extra calories and I want to make sure he's ready developmentally before we push solids. We also discussed his sleep and although Callan is a pretty champion sleeper and I know he can go the whole night from 8:30 to 6:30/7, he's been waking up around 2:30 am to eat during the week. I don't know if it's because I'm at work during the day or if he doesn't eat as much from the bottle, but I'm torn as to whether I should try to cut this feeding out or keep up with it. It does seem like he's hungry b/c he'll eat and it's not just comfort sucking, but I also don't want to form bad habits and he is able to go through the night (as he proves a few times a week). She also suggested putting him to bed earlier since 8:30 is pretty late, but I'm hesitant to mess with his schedule too much since in the grand scheme of things he is doing really well. I guess eventually we'll adjust his schedule, but we'll have to do it slowly b/c I've gotten used to getting some pretty good chunks of sleep and I'm not sure I'm ready to go backwards!

Our next appointment is in October for his 6 month check up. I'm assuming at that point he's going to be the size of a 9 month old, but that just means there's more of him to love.

This picture has nothing to do with anything, but he's cute and is determined to get that foot in his mouth (just like a 6 month old).

Little Giant

Today is Callan's 10 week birthday -wow, that has gone by fast. Now that we're in double digits, that means that the time for me to go back to work is quickly approaching. Ugh. If I just ignore it, do you think it'll go away? I wish it worked that way.

Things here with Callan have been great. He is still a real happy, content baby and has recently (i.e the last 2 nights) slept through the night. I know I'm jinxing myself by saying it, but hopefully this trend continues. He is full of smiles and loves talking to you, but we have yet to get consistent laughs out of him. A few nights ago when his Aunt Vanessa and Uncle Junior were visiting, we got him to give us lots of smiles and giggles (probably 5 minutes worth), but since then they've been sporadic. Hopefully in the next few days/weeks we'll work on laughing.

Yesterday was his 2 month doctor's appointment and it was confirmed that Callan is a little giant. He is 15 lbs 14 ounces (wowsers) and 26 inches long. At his 1 month appointment he was 10 lbs 14 ounces and 24 inches, so he is still growing like a weed. Yesterday he also had his shots, which he took like a champ. Cried a bit after the second shot, but calmed down pretty quickly and slept on the walk home. That evening he was a little extra fussy, but he still slept like a champ (although we did give him some baby tylenol so that might have helped). Today he's a little extra sleepy, but other than that he hasn't had any adverse effects from the immunizations.

So that's it. Callan is doing well and he is my little giant.

My chunky monkey

Today was Callan's one month doctor appointment and she confirmed what I already knew... we are growing a chunky monkey! Callan was 8 pounds 2 ounces and 21 inches long at birth. He dropped down to 7 pounds 12 ounces when we were discharged from the hospital and at his one week appointment he was 7 pounds 14 ounces, which put him in the 40th percentile. Today (3 weeks later) he is now 10 pounds 14 ounces! Essentially almost 11 pounds -he's gained 3 pounds in three weeks and is now in the 75th percentile. The only thing preventing him from being the fattest baby around is that he is tall -he is now 24 inches and off the height chart. Callan is now 2 feet tall! Ridiculous. And oddly enough, his head, which was one of my biggest worries during pregnancy is 15 inches and solidly in the 50th percentile.

In other news, he got his second Hepatitis B shot, which made him a little angry, but he seems ok now. Overall, it was a great appointment and I'm glad Callan is doing well. His next appointment is at the end of June and he'll get more shots -Boo :(
